La Pochette Surprise Records, music label from Hamburg, a Foggy Interview to listen loud!!!

Proud to announce the first episode from a new serie of recorded interview or podcast, call it as you like!

In this first recorded Foggy Interview, we’re meeting a young fellow called Velvet. He’s the boss of La Pochette Surprise, a record label from the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in the north of Germany. We are following his activity since the beginning actually, and it was obvious for us that we had to find out more deeply why he’s doing that.

This journey will lead us to talk about the genesis and purpose of La Pochette Surprise, its imagery but also the background of Velvet and his philosophy.
Let’s follow the Elbe, from Wedel to the Reeperbahn passing by Altona. Why has Hamburg this kind of unique vibe, always surrounded by great art and music scene and why a dolphin smokes weed.

Enjoy.

Part 2 to listen below (several links in case):

The second part of this recorded interview is going through the questioning of creating music. What were the big steps and what are the next steps for La Pochette Surprise Records, which with almost 40 releases, from cassettes, Cds, LPs, comics, organized its first festival “La Fête Surprise” last september and that was a success.

We started our journey from Wedel in the west of Hamburg and will of course have a stop in St Pauli. The famous and cosmopolitan harbour neighborhood which is never sleeping, where you’ll always be surprised, for better or for worse, where you’ll drink and talk, at a kiosk, at Komet, in a smoky club basement, where you’ll dance, to some wild concerts, to some crazy DJ spinning 7 inches till the morning light.

From Wedel, this will end in Veddel, for the one who knows, it’s on the other side of the Elbe and still stuff happening there…

Sick Hyenas – Foggyview (english)

Sick Hyenas have been creeping all the good, bad and hidden places of Hamburg’s rock’n roll side for some time now. The sickness they’re spreading would be well described as a kind of dirty and incurable psychedelism. We had to wander around the unlit streets of Sankt Pauli, being on the trail of these young hyenas and we finally came accross their DIY cassette named “the White Mofo Drug Smuggla tape” (La Pochette Surprise Records). The voice of C. Bukowski opens the first track to bring us on a dangerous journey which will end (so fast) with one powerful « Weither of Death ». This is it, harm’s been made, and to face the facts, these guys are making it pretty great.

What would happen next? Their first album is recorded and ready, just waiting for an evil soul to release it from the dark…

They kindly answered to some of our questions below :

" We are three guys, located in Hamburg, Germany. Velvet plays guitar and sings mainly, Thore plays guitar as well and backs up on vocals. Eddie hits the drums. "

x What is your definition of rock and roll or music ? or describe how do you feel when you're doing music?

Having a simple idea and ending up with something none of us expected. That's rock'n roll (for us at least).

x A picture?

This is an old picture of Thore's dad he showed us when we were setting up Sick Hyenas. We took it as a "band photo".

x Worst nightmare ?

Getting snatched by aliens.

x The place you enjoy the most?

Stages and bars.

x 3 albums:

Currently I'm (Velvet) listening to:
- Dreamsalon - Dreamsalon
- Night Beats - Sonic Bloom
- White Fence - Cyclops Reap

x A quote:

Sick Hyenas – Foggyview

English version here

x Pire cauchemar ?

Se faire attraper par des extraterrestres.

x Un endroit préféré?

Sur scène et dans les bars.

x 3 albums:

En ce moment, j’écoute ça (Velvet) :
- Dreamsalon - Dreamsalon
- Night Beats - Sonic Bloom
- White Fence - Cyclops Reap

x Une citation:
